If you are interested in learning more about the culture or language then check out these websites for more information.

Michigan State University

Michigan State’s Department of Journalism has developed a book of questions focused on East Asian people for anyone who is curious about the cultures and practices that East Asians use. It is very helpful in explaining the most frequently asked questions that everyone has heard about but never known the reason why. Some of the questions and answers can be found on their website news.jrn.msu.edu/culturecompetence/race/east-asians/ for those who are interested in learning about the traditions and why they are kept.

AAJA

aaja.org or Asian American Journalist Association research and provide accurate information on Asian Americans. They have created a guide full of terms and detailed information on religions, names, languages, and ethnicity so that anyone who is a journalist or anyone in general can be appropriately informed about Asian culture and not come across as ignorant about specific groups and their history.

King Sejong Institute

If anyone is interested in learning a bit of the Korean language then sejonghakdang.org is a site made by the King Sejong Institute. Auburn University is now affiliated with King Sejong Institute through our partnership with Keimyung University in Seoul, South Korea.

The site teaches you some of the basic grammar and Korean culture as well. It has three levels- introductory, beginner, and intermediate so that you can take your time and not feel like you’ve been thrown everything at once. It offers step-by-step instructions on learning the alphabet and correct pronunciations before taking you through how to write a sentence.

The site is also packed with information about living in Korea as well as Korean food and folktales and it’s all shown through creative webtoons and videos. There’s even info on style, dance, and Kpop. Given that Kpop is a huge part of South Korea’s culture it’s no wonder that the ambassador for King Sejong Institute is Yook Sungjae who is a member of the famous Kpop group, BTOB.
